Worlds Most Ethical Companies Methodology

The World’s Most Ethical Companies (WME) recognizes companies that truly go beyond making statements about doing business ‘ethically,’ to translate those words into action. WME winners demonstrate real and sustained ethical leadership within their industries, putting the Council’s credo of “Good. Smart. Business. Profit.” into real business practice.

Ethisphere’s evaluation and analysis looks into 7 broad categories that make up a company’s Ethics Quotient:

Ethisphere calculates the EQ score by verifying, evaluating and analyzing the information provided by companies through EQ Questionnaires and by additional research.

Want to learn more about the history of the methodology committee and their involvement? Click here.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Information provided through the EQ questionnaire is treated as confidential and only used to help factor the aggregate EQ score published for any particular company.

Each company will be assigned its EQ score based on a 1-100 point scale. Aggregate scores will also be published on our website as well as the websites and print publications of our media partners.

The higher EQ scores in each industry and geographical region will be finalists for the World’s Most Ethical Companies. Only a select few companies per industry are expected to make it to the World’s Most Ethical Companies in 2008. Ethisphere will also feature key regional groupings (e.g. U.S., Europe, Asia etc).

Any company whether public or private, from any country is eligible to participate subject to the following eligibility criteria:
1) company’s annual revenue is over $50 million (or its equivalent); or
2) company employs 100 or more people

Participation is FREE and SIMPLE. To learn more about the process and steps involved, click here.
